It was built when Mr. Carlos Jácome was mayor of the city in 1891 and at the initiative of Messrs. Federico Anzoátegui, Segundo Gutiérrez and Gabriel Flórez R. on land purchased from Mr. Alfredo Serrano, according to deed No. 43 of the year 1891 of the First Notary Public of Cucuta. At the end of its construction, the result was so beautiful that they soon called it "The corner of the poets."
This park is located on avenue 7 between streets 5 and 6. In front of it is the old Model Prison, which was completed by Dr. Emilio Gaitán Martín and which according to Mr. Luis Gabriel Castro, by 1934 Dr. Antonio was building. Vega Rangel.
This beautiful park was dedicated to the heroine Antonia Santos of whom it is said that “the day she was executed (July 28, 1819), she walked among the ranks of the soldiers, in the Socorro park, with Christian humility but without dejection, With a serene forehead and before reaching the gallows, he took off the ring he was wearing and, addressing the officer who commanded the troops, asked him to accept it and order him to shoot only at the chest, so as not to suffer so much. Immediately she sat down, took out a handkerchief, and with the serenity of the one who knows what he's doing, she adjusted her dress and with the handkerchief, she wrapped the suit around her feet against the pole of the bench. In this way her infamous sacrifice was made.
The bust of the heroine was donated by the Cucuteño sculptor Alberto Jurgense and was inaugurated on July 22, 1922.
